Antelope Island
Antelope Island is a Utah State park located about seven miles west of Layton Utah, and can be accessed by taking exit 108 off of I-15. Antelope Island is the largest of the ten islands in the Great Salt Lake, and by far the most well known. The scenic beauty of the island coupled with the its' status as a wildlife preserve provides a glimpse of what the western United States was like before the onset of white settlers. The gargantuan herds of bison that once called this region home have been all but exterminated, however on Antelope Island there is one of the largest herds of bison on Earth. Publicly owned by the State of Utah, these bison are kept on the island for all of the park visitors to enjoy.

The causeway leading out to Antelope Island is roughly seven miles long. Flanked on either side by the Great Salt Lake, the causeway is a great place to see migratory birds as well as to get a feel for the vastness of the Great Salt Lake. The first thing many visitors to the park notice is the smell of the Great Salt Lake which wafts over the causeway. A mix of salt water and decomposing organisms, this smell is certainly an acquired taste but regular visitors to the park will come to associate it with the beauty and splendor that engrosses the island.
Not many places offer a bison burger anymore, the Island Buffalo Grill on Antelope Island is the only established restaurant on the island. In addition to their mainstay, bison burgers, the Island Buffalo Grill offers menu items that are common to most restaurants. No visit to the island is complete without a visit to the Island Buffalo Grill.
